Cross Over Art & Bangladesh
Exhibition Date:
06 Feb, 2012 Dates: 06 Feb, 2012 - 06 Mar, 2012
Art & Bangladesh Painting Exhibition is an Indo-Bangladesh artists. The Residency Cross Over is an Indo-Bangladesh artists’ residency sequenced in two phases- Phase I held in Dhaka from 18 to 24 December 2011, and Phase II is scheduled in Delhi from 17 to 22 January 2012. Curated jointly by Dhaka-based artist and writer Mustafa Zaman and Delhi-based arts consultants and writers Sushma K Bahl and Archana B Sapra, it is an interactive participating project involving a core group of artists from the two countries. Cross Over is a creative collaboration that facilitates a cross-fertilization of divergent voices and aesthetics amongst the art practitioners of the two cultural and historically connected countries. It reconfigures a creative framework and space for staging interactivity and multi-vocality for an interface between them in a contemporary context of changing global scenario. A select group of promising and mid career artists with a good track record and engaged in interesting innovative work in varied genres – about half a dozen from different parts of each country along with other local artists joining in at both the locations – get together on a single platform to share their vision, ideas, issues and art practices and the curatorial framework. The project is supported by Depart, an English quarterly magazine published from Dhaka during Phase I in Bangladesh, and by Art Mall, in Phase II at Delhi in January. Programme & Exhibitions. The residency program in a mix of structured programme and more open-ended options has been a platform for reflection, relaxation and rejuvenation of the body and mind as well as an inspiration and scope for renewed creativity and expression. It included discussions and interactions amongst the participants as well as lectures by guest artists and visits to local museums/art galleries and sites of historical and cultural significance with time and facilities to draw, paint, write and do other things in the mornings and visits/ discussions/ slide shows in the evenings. The travels and interactions, documented and photographed, make it to the current issue of Depart Magazine and the exhibitions at Dhaka and in Delhi. The work resulting from the residencies reflects something of the contemporary borderless terrain of today’s networked world and is showcased in curated exhibitions supported by documented catalog. The one in Bangladesh was held at the lively Dhaka Art Centre while the Delhi show is scheduled from 21 to 28 January at the main gallery in the new wing at India International Centre in Delhi after which it will move for a month long run at the Art Mall galleries in the city. The exhibition continues until 28 January 10 am to 7 pm daily at the India International Centre and thereafter on display at Art Mall Galleries until 25 February 2012. |
